Rules and Regulations
Camera & photo formats:
- Only digital cameras can be used (no mobile phones)
- All participants must bring and use their own digital camera
- Please bring your own formatted (i.e. empty) memory card on the day of the photo marathon
- All images must be in JPEG RGB format only (no RAW images)
- No off camera edditing is allowed. (i.e. no photoshopping). It is not allowed to retouch photographs with the use of a computer in course of the competition.
- The judges will check to see that no photos have been imported onto your memory card from an external source or the photos have been edited off camera in any way
- The competition will be judged by professionals and the judges’ verdict is final
- Failure to comply with these rules will result in disqualification
Entry:
- Please make your payment promptly after booking to secure your place. An email will be sent to you if your payment is not received within 2 weeks of booking. Your place may then be taken by someone else if we are oversubscribed
- All entrants are to fill in the booking form honestly
- To qualify, all participants must register for the marathon through the webpage on or before 24h00 on the closing date (to be announced)
- Refunds will only be permitted in exceptional circumstances agreed by the organisers. Please contact the organisers if you have difficulties, stating your Entrant Number and Name
- All participants under the age of 18 must bring to the event a signed consent form from a parent or legal guardian. A copy of the concent form can be found here
- The marathon is open to amateur and professional photographers of any age
- Payment of entrance fee signifies acceptance of the rules
On the day:
- All participants must check in with a valid picture ID at the event location to receive a participant package and to sign a copy of the Rules and Regulations (if needed) before participating
- The event staff will announce 6 of the themes at the start of the day and a further 6 themes at lunch time. (The provision of lunch is not included)
- Each participant must return to the event location or have someone return on their behalf to receive the themes
- All participants must enter 1 photo interpreting each theme in any way they want for a total of 12 photos in the order in which the themes are released
- All participants must abide by all the relevant ACT and Australian laws
- All participants must respect personal and artists’ rights, the rights of property owners and be respectful and mindful at all times
- If you take pictures of children (under the age of 18) you must have written permission from their parents. This written permission must then be submittedwith the photographs
- Photos of explicit nudity and criminal behaviour of any kind will not be developed and are grounds for immediate disqualification
- All participants must return their photos in person to the event location at or before 8pm on the event day
Ownership of Photos
- The participant retains full ownership of the photos taken during the event
- Canberra Photo Marathon retains the right to publish all photos on Flickr.com for an unlimited period of time, publish all photos on the official website for an unlimited period of time, display printed versions of the photos at the public showcase, and use the photos for promotional purposes for future Photo Marathon Events
Disclaimer
- By entering, participants release and hold harmless the Canberra Photo Marathon and its sponsors and affiliates as well as any directors, officers, volunteers, judges or employees of those organizations from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the contest
- In an effort to keep the event costs down, all participants will be asked to agree to the Accident Waiver and Release of Liability Agreement when purchasing a ticket. A copy of the Agreement can be found here
- If, for any reason, the contest is not capable of being conducted as planned, including any causes beyond the control of the administrators, Photo Marathon Canberra reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, modify, suspend or terminate the contest without notice to the entrants
- The organisers of the event reserves the right to alter the number, type and cost of unsold tickets available to the event at any stage
- Entry into the photography contest does not create any vested right or interest for the participants in the prizes offered for the contest
